From my Grandfather's toolbox, this is a Vintage (possibly antique) Single-Screw Holder Wrench, sometimes called a Die Stock Holder. Good vintage condition, some wear from use is evident, but it is fairly light, along with some mild staining here and there. A nice surviving vintage tool!
Dimensions:
- 8 inch overall length
- Underside of the center circular port: 1"
- Top of the center circular opening: 7/8"
Inside, upper lip around the center circular opening: 1/8" thick
- Wider section of the inside of the port: 1/4" thick.
- Slotted head set screw thread section: 1/4" length
Handles 7/8" diameter stock
Die Holder Wrenches have been used by machinists for many years to securely hold pieces of round profile metal stock for cutting with a thread cutter (which fits into the underside of the tool). The set screw holds the metal stock in place.
This particular tool is almost certainly of American manufacture, and is at least 75-80 years old. A nice piece for the collector!
