Greco Rickenbacker Fireglo 360 Style (6 String)
-Made in Japan sometime in the late 1960’s.
Almost everything is original and in very good to excellent
condition. The modern vintage Rick P-90 style Alnico 5 pickups
are new and the Rick style knobs are modern vintage.
I found the pickups new on Ebay and they have readings of Neck
6.8K and Bridge 7.7k. They sound good on this guitar, with the neck punchy and full and bridge brighter and a bit chimey.
The action, sound and playability is outstanding for such a
vintage instrument - most Greco’s I have played from the sixties
and seventies are excellent in construction and design. The
space around the double truss rod is too tight for any of my tools
to access. The action is medium to low on this guitar and maybe
with a tweak of the truss rod could be lowered. The tuners are
very smooth turning and are surprisingly high quality.
This has obvious Rick styling, extremely solid construction
quality with a stylish and very familiar body shape. There is lovely
inlaid checkered binding, the finish is deeply layered with just a
bit of vintage crackling on the back and bit of finish creasing
around the neck joint. The frets are clean with lots of life left, the
neck is straight neck with very low action and in true Rick style it
has a double truss rod set up. The output is mono, not the
double jack stereo setup found on many Rickenbackers.
The fifth blender knob works as it should, either blending the
neck pickup into the overall mix (or providing an overall volume
adjustment) and the tone dials also do their job. The knobs are
Rick vintage style modern. The tremolo tailpiece is original to the
guitar and would benefit from a spring that is about 1/2 inch
shorter to bring the bar closer to the guitar.
The lower bought is 15 inches across, the depth of the guitar is
1.75 inches, the scale is 24.75 inches and the overall length is 40
inches.
