I've had this ML320 CDI for a number of years and we've taken good care of it. I just put approximately $6k into this machine replacing the engine with a lower-mileage engine (one with 91,000 miles on it). I'm hearing a sound just below 2,000 rpm that is could be the injection pump, but it could also be front bearing wear. Somebody could pick this up for cheap, sort it out, and have a pretty darn nice vehicle.
It looks extremely sharp for 200,000+ miles! The interior is near-perfect, the body has some minor dings, but the body is solid with no rust, the paint is good, the transmission, suspension and AWD system are in good shape. No check engine light, either.
With my work all the fluids and a ton of seals have been replaced. I wound up replacing the front differential, too.
I was going to make this my winter driving vehicle, before we took a look at our family's needs and realized that we need a truck. The vehicle currently has a Green Diesel Engineering tune on it for about 440 lb-ft of torque.
I was going to do some tuning, so I installed an Auber Instruments dual gauge that provides EGT and boost pressure information. That is the square device shown in some of the photos. It's installed in a custom 3D printed pod in carbon-filled polycarbonate.
If you live in an area where emissions are checked, stay away from this vehicle. The following have been deleted for longevity, performance, and efficiency purposes: EGR, DPF, swirl vanes, catalysts. Exactly the same thing all the diesel pickup owners do to their machines.
