16 (sixteen) Vintage/Historic Len Hartman-Fred McClintock deep diving muskie plugs, several precursors to the commercially produced "Hartman Muskie Bug". This lure collection came directly from Fred McClintock, renowned guide and one of the most astute, perceptive. innovative and successful multi-species freshwater fisherman-guides imaginable including muskies (Chautauqua in W. NY, Susquehanna River Williamsport, Pa, Dale Hollow, many more), striper on the Cumberland River system/Caney Fork, TN, others), Wolf River, TN, rainbow and brown trout river systems). I also have many original archived paper articles that surround these lures.
With great sadness, we learned Fred died in 2017, but his legacy, technique and methodology has been passed along most appropriately. He was a driven angler, great friend and piece of fishing history (also was introduced into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisconsin). And regarding Len Hartman who also passed, there's a lot of controversy surrounding his alleged records, but regardless, he and his wife Betty had some really big success with very colorful stories from the St. Lawrence River system to the north and they truly lived so they could fish and had some huge success.
Fred passed on these lures to me from his extensive collection (and his grandfather) and from Len Hartman's supply, who traveled to Dale Hollow, right after began guiding on Dale Hollow out of Celina, TN in the mid 1980's to fish with Fred and after a significant article in the In-Fisherman magazine appeared that launched his guiding career (remember, these were the days before instant computerized communication when paper publications were the thing that propelled fishing as a sport). I have the complete history of these lures, the whole "when, where and why" of their cottage-industry manufacture and implementation....and it's a rich history. AND...these things work!
