Information, specifications and frame geometry:
Article about the origin of Zambikes and their products -- includes photos from the workshop outside of Lusaka: http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/31/business/bamboo-bicycles-zambia-zambikes/index.html
I bought this bamboo frame made in Zambia with treated bamboo and hemp rope.
The frame is so well hand crafted people often over look it and think it's just another modern bike frame.
I hand selected all the parts to create both an "Organic" and "Modern" look.
Although this bike has good quality parts and is very much like a modern road bike,
it doesn't perform like one.
I built it to be a unique conversation piece.
It's not super light, although it has many parts including the wheel set, crankset, forks (including steertube), and seat post that are carbon fiber.
I'm 5'-9" ish and 165lbs and it fits me fine. Someone a bit smaller may need a shorter stem, someone a bit taller would probably be okay. I'm not sure what the weight limit would be so probably can't be a "Cycle-dale".
The drive train is 1 x 9 with a Shimano FRICTION SHIFT bar end shifter.
Pedals are not included in the sale, I will pick up a flat set for you.
No Bags, or Water bottle included.....cool bottle cage included.
After speeds of 14-15mph you start to notice that the frame is not as sturdy as a typical road bike.
This would be more for the cycling enthusiast that appreciates a unique bike and knows that value of just that . . . or someone who is a casual rider who would enjoy riding such a special bike that will be a conversation piece every time they ride.
I will put together a parts list for an interested buyer . . . although from the pic you can see many of the brand names and models of components....
If you look online for just this bamboo frame, I've seen them go from $500-$700....
